Neoteric Fine Art proudly presents James Katsipis's #COLDWATERSURFERSERIES, a photographic exhibition of an epic winter journey documenting the world of cold water surfing...
James Katsipis, a lifelong native of Montauk, New York, has assembled here a breathtaking portfolio of images that represent the world of cold-water surfing as seen through his own eyes, both in and out of that extreme element. James hardcore dedication to his craft has earned him an irrefutable place among the sports most respected photographers, faithfully capturing moments that 99.9% of the worlds population could never imagine: a "seals eye view" of freezing perfect waves, gigantic winter surf in Ireland, crystalline sub-zero reefscapes, and the equally brave and dedicated surfers who chase these scenarios. James local perspective and embedded relationship with Montauk's local surf scene has produced an intimate portrait of a unique subculture. Take a step into the world of a #coldwatersurfer...
"We traded in our warm and sunny surfing season for a cold and dark one. What other option did we have? Now draped in thick neoprene and covered in snow, we have empty waters with waves all to ourselves. Getting into your 5mm wetsuit in the heated parking lot bathrooms and pouring hot water from home in your boots so your feet don't freeze is not vacation brochure material." - James Katsipis
Please join us on Friday, April 26th from 6-9pm for an opening reception for the artist, and enjoy giveaways from Nixon, Oakley, NYSea, Wampum and Whalebone, as well as refreshments by PBR and Montauk Brewing Company. Music by The Montauk Project!
